AURORA CHESS

Aurora Chess is a 3D chess game. This policy explains what information is collected, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information.

1. Data Stored on Your Device

All account data, settings, and progress are stored locally on your device using browser localStorage. This includes:

Username and hashed password (SHA-256) — never stored in plain text
Google account ID and email (only if you choose to link a Google account)
Game settings and visual preferences
Puzzle completion progress
Saved games and move history
Input layout profiles and key bindings

This data never leaves your device except as described in sections 2 and 3 below. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser or app storage.

2. Online Multiplayer Server

When you use online multiplayer, your device connects to the Aurora Chess game server. The server:

Receives your username and ELO rating to enable matchmaking
Stores your username and rating on the server to maintain your leaderboard position
Logs your IP address temporarily for rate limiting and abuse prevention (not retained long-term)
Does not store passwords — authentication is handled locally

Online play is entirely optional. The game is fully playable offline against the AI.

3. Third-Party Services

Google Sign-In (optional)
If you choose to link a Google account, Aurora Chess uses Google OAuth. Google may collect data according to their own privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy. Your Google ID and email are stored locally on your device only.

WebRTC TURN Server
Online multiplayer uses WebRTC peer-to-peer connections. To establish connections through firewalls, a TURN relay server (openrelay.metered.ca) may be used. Your IP address may be visible to this server during connection setup. See metered.ca/privacy for their policy.

4. Data We Do Not Collect

No analytics or tracking of any kind
No advertising identifiers
No crash reporting sent to third parties
No sale or sharing of any personal data with third parties

5. Children

Aurora Chess does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The game contains no advertising and no in-app purchases.

6. Your Rights

You can delete all locally stored data at any time by clearing your browser or app storage. To request deletion of your username and rating from the game server, contact us at the email below.
